Racing to the Finish Line!

-Miranda Dameron, ’23

Runners quickly zooming by, throwers shooting the heavy shot as far as they possibly can, pole vaulters hurling themselves over 10 feet in the air, and so much more. That’s just a normal day within our very own Broadneck Track and Field Team.

track and field

Our Track and Field Team consists of over 80 students participating in various events, such as high jump, long jump, shot put, distance running, and sprinting.

During the regular season, our team placed in the top five in many events, including the 300m, 500m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4x200m, 4x800m, DMR, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, and shot put. They also placed first in the 800m, 1600m, 4x800m DMR, and in the shot put.

“The team as a whole has performed well during the regular season,” said the Broadneck Track and Field head coach, Mr. Webster. “Some of our newest athletes have exceeded expectations while some of our experienced athletes have proven to be great leaders and teammates.”

Many students have definitely enjoyed their track season this year. “I really enjoyed track a lot,” said freshman, Collin Fitzgerald. “It’s definitely improved my running and my attitude towards running.”

“Through track I have improved as a runner, and have learned more about pacing and how to train well,” said freshman, Caroline Pace. ¨I have also made new friends which made it even better!”

Starting January 15th, Broadneck’s top 50 track athletes will participate in the track and field championship season.

“Our athletes have really stepped up at the county level and displayed a real sense of determination that makes me proud as a coach,” said Webster.  “Our Regional meet will show us how many of our athletes really want to make it to the State Championship, so I’m excited to see how they perform.”

If you would like to come out and support our Broadneck track and field team, their next competition is the Central Regional meet on February 4th, 2020 at the Baltimore Armory. Hope to see you there!
